Lumia — Frequently Asked Questions

2026 | 09 | 21

Lumia is an AI-assisted feature that helps authorized practitioners interpret assessment results generated through SuccessFinder's validated methodologies. This FAQ answers the questions SuccessFinder most often receives from current and prospective customers organizations.

Common Questions about Lumia

What is Lumia?

An AI-assisted feature within the SuccessFinder platform that helps authorized users interpret assessment results generated through SuccessFinder’s validated methodologies. It generates a narrative summary of a participant’s results and provide a conversational chat experience that allows users to ask follow-up questions, explore insights, and better understand assessment results.

Does Lumia calculate assessment scores?

No. Scores, profiles and results come from SuccessFinder’s validated scoring methodologies, and Lumia plays no part in producing them. Lumia operates only after assessment scoring has been completed and cannot alter, recalculate, or influence assessment scores in any way.

What AI technology powers Lumia?

Google’s Gemini models. SuccessFinder did not develop or train the underlying AI model but constrains its use through proprietary psychometric content, system instructions and guardrails.

Are AI models trained using customer data?

No. Neither SuccessFinder nor Google (AI provider) uses assessment data, prompts, or AI-generated responses to train AI models.

Does the AI model use personal information?

No. Lumia is designed to exclude participant names, email addresses, and other direct identifiers from information sent to the AI model. The chat feature, which accepts free-text inputs, is the only mechanism through which users may introduce personal information into a conversation. Users should therefore avoid entering personal information unless it is necessary for the conversation.

Where is customer data processed and stored?

Lumia is hosted and operated in Canada, and customer data is processed and stored within Canadian infrastructure. In limited circumstances, authorized personnel from Google (AI provider) may access certain information from outside Québec or Canada when necessary to provide support, maintenance, security, or related operational services

Can Lumia make employment decisions or recommendations ?

No. Lumia is designed to support the interpretation of assessment results, not to make employment decisions. It will not provide hiring, promotion, termination, ranking, or similar recommendations. All employment decisions remain the responsibility of human decision-makers exercising their own judgment.

Is Lumia on by default, and can it be turned off?

No. Lumia is disabled by default and is enabled only upon request. Once enabled, the customer organization controls which of its authorized users can access it. Customer organizations may request that Lumia be disabled at any time.

Data and Retention

What exactly is sent to the AI model?

Information provided to the AI model is:

  • the participant’s assessment scores,
  • SuccessFinder’s assessment content and interpretive guidance, and
  • when the chat interface is used, the question submitted by the user.
What does SuccessFinder store, and for how long?

We store user prompts, AI-generated responses, conversation records, generated narratives, and related operational and security logs to operate, support, and secure Lumia. AI-generated content and user prompts are treated as customer data and are subject to the same retention policies that apply to other data within the SuccessFinder platform. When a participant or organization customer account is deleted, associated Lumia content is handled in accordance with those retention and deletion practices.

Does the AI provider (Google) retain customer data?

No. Google does not retain customer, participant, or account-specific data processed through Lumia.

What happens to Lumia data when a customer organization stops using SuccessFinder?

AI-generated content is not subject to a separate retention framework and is managed consistently with other customer data stored within the SuccessFinder platform.

Access and Confidentiality

Who in the customer organization can use Lumia?

Only authorized users within the customer account can access Lumia. Access is managed through SuccessFinder’s role-based permissions framework. Assessment participants do not have access to Lumia.

Are Lumia conversations shared with other users?

No. Lumia conversations are private to the user who created them. Administrators, account owners, and other users do not gain access to a user’s conversations by virtue of their role. AI-generated narratives remain subject to the platform’s standard access permissions, but the underlying chat conversations are not shared with other users.

Is Lumia content accessible to SuccessFinder staff?

Access to Lumia conversations is restricted to a limited number of authorized SuccessFinder personnel who have a legitimate business need, such as providing customer support, maintaining security, complying with legal obligations, or investigating incidents. Such access is governed by the principle of least privilege, subject to appropriate authorization and oversight, and protected by confidentiality obligations and periodic access reviews.

Security

How is Lumia data protected?

Lumia is protected by the same security controls that safeguard the SuccessFinder platform, including role-based access controls, encryption in transit and at rest, security monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response processes. In addition, Lumia incorporates AI-specific safeguards designed to help ensure the service is used responsibly and in accordance with its intended purpose.

What security and compliance reviews apply to Lumia?

Lumia is included within SuccessFinder’s security and compliance program. SuccessFinder maintains SOC 2 Type II audit covering the Security and Availability criteria and Lumia is included in the audit period that began on July 1, 2026. Lumia is expected to appear in the report issued after that period closes in mid-2027.

How is Lumia protected against attacks and vulnerabilities?

Lumia is designed to address both traditional security risks and AI-specific threats. It is tested against the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, and our research team also attempts to bypass its guardrails during output validation. Lumia undergoes an independent penetration test, where identified findings are remediated promptly. Controls include protected system instructions, refusal mechanisms, monitoring, and security controls aligned with SuccessFinder’s broader security program.

What happens if there is a security or privacy incident?

Lumia is covered by SuccessFinder’s incident response program. Prompts, AI-generated content, and conversation records are treated as information assets and are managed through the same security and privacy processes that apply across the SuccessFinder platform. Where required, notifications are provided in accordance with applicable laws and our contractual commitments.

Responsible AI

Does Lumia make automated decisions or predictions about people?

No. Lumia does not score, rank, screen, filter, or make decisions about individuals. It is not designed to predict job success, attrition, burnout, misconduct, or other future outcomes. Its purpose is to help authorized users understand and interpret assessment results that have already been generated through SuccessFinder’s validated methodologies.

What are Lumia’s guardrails?

Lumia is designed to support the interpretation of assessment results and will decline requests that fall outside that purpose. When possible, it redirects the conversation toward information that is relevant to the assessment results and can be addressed appropriately. Lumia’s usage boundaries and refusal behaviors are regularly tested and validated.

How does Lumia reduce the risk of bias?

Lumia is designed to focus on assessment results rather than demographic or personal characteristics. It does not have access to information about an individual’s age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other protected characteristics, and it is designed not to use such factors when interpreting assessment results.

Can Lumia make mistakes or “hallucinate”?

Like any generative AI system, Lumia may occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete, or imperfect responses. For that reason, Lumia is designed with a narrow and well-defined purpose, incorporates safeguards to support responsible use, and is support human interpretation rather than decision-making. Users should always review and assess Lumia’s outputs in light of their own expertise and the underlying assessment results.

Privacy and Compliance

Which privacy laws apply to Lumia?

SuccessFinder’s privacy program for Lumia is designed to comply with applicable Canadian privacy laws, including Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Where customers are subject to additional privacy requirements, such as the GDPR, SuccessFinder can work with them to assess and address any applicable obligations.

How does Lumia’s design affect AI regulatory requirements?

Lumia is designed to support the interpretation of assessment results and not to make hiring recommendations, screening decisions, classifications, or other employment decisions. Human users remain responsible for all employment-related decisions. This design is an important factor in SuccessFinder’s assessment of applicable AI regulatory requirements.

Are participants informed when AI is used?

Yes. Participants are informed that AI-assisted interpretation may be used as part of the SuccessFinder experience. This information is provided through participant-facing notices and consent materials.

Can a participant access AI-generated content about them?

Yes, if allowed by the customer organization. SuccessFinder can help customer organizations retrieve AI-generated content relating to a participant in order to support applicable access requests and other privacy rights requests.

Commercial

Does using Lumia change our agreement?

No. During the Beta program, Lumia forms part of your existing subscription services, governed by your current agreement together with the Lumia Terms of Use, which authorized users accept before their first session.

What does Lumia cost during the beta?

Lumia is provided at no additional charge to invited organizations for the duration of the beta program.

What happens when the beta ends?
